How Fuel Consumption Is Measured

One Flow, Measured Directly — or Two Flows, Measured and Subtracted

Direct

Fuel passing through the meter is measured directly

Tank → Filter → Direct → Engine

A simple single-channel measurement story — the whole fuel flow to the engine passes through one measuring chamber.

Delta

Supply and return flows are measured separately

Consumption = Supply − Return

Electronics calculate the difference. The original fuel-supply / return circulation scheme is retained — no fuel system reconfiguration.

Eurosens Direct

One Flow. Direct Measurement.

Single-chamber fuel flow meters for diesel engines and stationary fuel consumers — from smaller engine applications to high-flow industrial equipment.

Eurosens Delta

Measure Supply. Measure Return. Calculate What the Engine Actually Uses.

Supply 120 L/h · 38 °CDeltaEngine
Return 93 L/h · 57 °CDeltaEngine

Actual consumption = 27 L/h

Installed in the existing supply and return lines — the original fuel-circulation scheme is retained

One chamber is installed in the supply line and the other in the return line. No fuel system reconfiguration is required.

Two Flows Can Have Two Different Temperatures. Delta Measures Both.

Dual-temperature compensation on both measuring channels — not a specification footnote, a core part of how Delta stays accurate.

Why Eurosens?

Engineering Differentiators, Not Just a Spec Sheet

01

Multi-Hall magnetic immunity

Multiple Hall-effect sensors and processing algorithms improve resistance to external magnetic fields.

02

Tamper detection

Attempts to interfere with the meter can be detected and recorded.

03

Abnormal flow detection

Excessively high flow conditions can be accumulated in a dedicated counter.

04

Electronic flow direction

Electronic flow-direction detection removes the need for a separate check valve for this purpose.

05

Low hydraulic resistance

Designed for installation within the engine fuel-system pressure requirements.

06

Built for harsh environments

Automotive connector, hardened alloy body, antifriction-coated measuring chambers.

More Than a Fuel Counter

Fuel Consumption by Operating Mode

Configurable thresholds let the meter classify operation and accumulate fuel and runtime data for different modes — not just a totalizer.

CURRENT CONSUMPTION37.4 L/h
ENGINE MODENOMINAL
ENGINE RUNTIME1,284 h
IDLE FUEL1,920 L
SUPPLY (DELTA)141.3 L/h
RETURN (DELTA)103.9 L/h
MAGNETIC INTERFERENCENO
  • IDLE

Low-load / idle consumption and runtime

  • NOMINAL

    Normal operating region

  • OVERLOAD

    Higher-than-normal operating flow

  • ABNORMAL / TAMPERING

Flow above the configured abnormal threshold

Total fuel volume, instantaneous consumption, mode-split runtime, reverse-flow data where supported, and magnetic-interference time — all from one measurement platform.

Keep the original fuel circulation principle: for Delta, the supply chamber is installed in the feed line and the return chamber in the return line — fuel consumption is calculated from the difference, without rerouting the normal return flow. Where the return line contains air or foam, the installation may require Eurosens Deaerator.

FAQ

Questions from Integrators and Fleets

Direct measures the whole fuel flow to the engine directly in one chamber. Delta measures supply and return flow separately and calculates the difference, without changing the original fuel-circulation scheme.
